Furtherance of Golf Report to the 124th NNM
We renewed our sponsorships of all the Age Group events for both GolfRSA Boys and Girls, and I would like to thank all the Nomads from both NATEX as well as the Clubs that have got involved and represented Nomads at these events. We continue to be held in very high esteem by the golfing public and this is achieved through the dedication of Nomads that get involved at their events.
The SADGA (Disabled Golf’s) coach’s workshop was held in February in Cape Town and was very successful. I was invited to attend a part of the workshop and it was really humbling to see what lengths these coaches go through to ensure that golf can be enjoyed by disabled people. While we do not sponsor the SA Disabled Open, we are asked to assist with the scoring and I would like to thank Barry Bruton and Sonja Slade for their willingness and time to go and assist. This shows that our services are valued far beyond the financial contribution that we make. I would like to make an impassioned plea to all the Clubs to consider getting involved with SADGA in their areas when deciding on the allocation of their FoG funds. They do a phenomenal job on a very limited budget and everything they achieve is done through the generosity of their sponsors.
SAGDB (Development Board) has another full calendar and we have reached the stage this year that combined with our sponsors, SAGDB is our biggest benefactor. We value the sponsorships that we get from Motus and Konica Minolta. The donation from Motus enable us to sponsor the SAGDB Provincial Challenge which will be combined with the 20th Anniversary of the SAGDB and played at Royal Johannesburg in December. This is the only chance that many players get to compete against other players from around the country. The sponsorship from KM enables us to send a team of 5 players and a manager to Australia each year to compete in the Jack Newton World International Championships. Last year Mark Howard Brown met the juniors in Sydney and gave them a guided tour of the city, thereby enhancing their experience. At the Motus Challenge at Champagne Sports Resort, the junior invitations were limited to 12 kids from SAGDB and while the mix of attendees was not 100% correct, we have taken the first steps in the right direction.
I am still receiving requests for sponsorship for individuals as well as sponsorship for events not supported by our partners (GolfRSA, SADGA and SAGDB). The requirements for sponsorship are clearly stipulated in the MOI. Captains and Vice Captains, please familiarize yourselves with the MOI.
I take this opportunity to congratulate, and wish, Southern Natal all the best for their 35th Anniversary. Being a Past Captain, it is a Club that I hold close to my heart.
In closing, I would like to thank NATEX for their continued support and my fellow Directors, Ronnie and Eric Fischer for all that they do to keep the cogs turning. I would also like to thank our generous sponsors, Motus, MFC, Konica Minolta and TaylorMade for all they do to assist the development of Junior Golf in South Africa. Without you we could not achieve what we do.
Yours in Nomads
