Perfect golf weather with a gentle breeze welcomed us back to Parow GC. It was great to be back. It is important to remain mindful of how fortunate we are to have so many clubs in the WP where we are able to play our monthly games and it is incumbent upon us to support them, especially the clubs that have been through a tough time.

In the Captain’s 4-ball I was joined by the Captain of Parow GC, and fellow WP Nomad, Manny Goncalves as well as two 25-year tie recipients, John Winter and Rod Lowe. John and Rod played exceptional golf. Manny and I, not so much…

Besides John and Rod there were a number of members who received tie awards. Immediate Past Captain, Ed Jearey received his 5-year tie, Dumisani Balman his 10-year tie and Donovan Dawson his 15-year tie.

It was great to see a strong field of 123 players on our return to Parow. The average score for the day was 30.6 points. Congratulations to the Division winners, Bekkie van Dyk (38 pts off 1), Dudley Meredith (39 pts off 12) and George Scrimgour (37 pts off 16).

Welmar O’Reilly found the Joker! He won just over R8000. The new draw starts next month.

There was much excitement as our team of 37 players and 13 reserves was announced by our Nationals Coordinator, Mike Heath. We have a great team to take the Fish Horn to the Border region and bring back the Bert Hunt trophy.

Thank you to all the committee members and the support team who ensure that our monthly games go off without a hitch. Lisa remains the rose amongst the thorns. Where would we be without you?
