Captain’s Match Report: Rondebosch GC – 15/8/2019

Another lovely day at Rondebosch. The weather was superb, and the course was in good condition, all be it very wet in places after all the rain we have experienced. The hospitality was outstanding, and fun was had by all. We had 126 players in the field including 115 Nomads. Well done to everyone for keeping up our playing numbers and supporting our monthly games. The average score for the day was 29.

The Captain’s fourball included the Rondebosch Captain, Ken Walker. Few, if any, people have done more for the club in their Nomadic career and Ken has been involved in almost every sphere. He has served on a Nomads committee in some capacity for 35 years! Brendan Barratt is the communications man for GolfRSA and Nomads and a huge asset for the club. The fourth man was Ronan Copas who played in his 300th game! A true gentleman.

Five tickets were drawn for the Joker draw and Ray Dodgen was in the pound seats with two chances BUT Rod Watkins was the first in line and he FOUND THE JOKER (Watch the video here)! The look of shock on his face, as Rod realised he had won just over R80 000, was priceless. Rod immediately donated R20 000 of his winnings to Andrew Mentis. The generosity of our members knows no bounds.

This was the first prize giving since April that we did not have to pin a member’s badge to the alter. Yet the sadness continues as we mourned the loss of Arthur Huber. Doc was one of our characters and loved spending time with the boys at our monthly games. He will be sorely missed.

Lisa was assisted by Pauline Heath. Thank you, ladies, for making sure prize giving could start on time and that everything runs smoothly.

A huge thank you to our national and local sponsors. We look forward to our next game is at Westlake on 26 September 2019.

Yours in Nomads
